First 1EG in 3D !!
the very FIRST of hopefully many 1EG's in 3D !! i'm really excited about making sculptures of my girls. this one was made in only 2 days due to a deadline, and i learned what to do and what not to do. i'm hoping my next one will be more advanced seeing as i'll have more time and have some knowledge of how to attack it.
you can see it in person at my Red Horse Gallery Show TOMORROW, THURSDAY DEC 3 at 6-8 pm! Or until Jan 8, 2010 from 10am-4:30pm Mon-Fri! (Freehold Raceway Mall, upper level next to Sears!)

I am going to be in another one of The Autumn Society's art shows, this time to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Mike Mignola's Hellboy. this is my piece for the show: liz sherman as a One-Eyed Girl, with little 1EG toothfairies. i'm not very familiar with the comic, so i stuck with the movies, which i'm a huge fan of. it was a fun one to paint though! Apparently, Mike Mignola (creator of hellboy) was informed of the show, and would like to see our pieces. The Autumn Society will be sending prints of each of our pieces to Mike and also Guillermo Del Torro. very cool
the reception is

difficult tasks
two things that are very hard to do:
1. paint while eating ice cream simultaneously. i put my paintbrushes in my mouth.. a lot.. i keep getting confused with my spoon and brushes..
2. having a cup of drinking water while painting. i confused it with my dirty painty water.

Red Horse Gallery sneak peeks!
everything is all set for my show at the Red Horse Gallery in Freehold Mall! i'm taking this time to do some things i've been wanting to work on for a while, but haven't had time to. i know this makes no sense, but it's kind of exhausting to (even though you also want to) work on only things you HAVE to do. i've been sketching out personal paintings as well as a whole bunch of KAOTIC KRITTERS . (all to be seen here in the future). getting as much of this in as i can before having to "go back to work" and do only pieces i HAVE to do for a million weeks again. either way i'm painting, so i'm happy!
anyway the next few posts will be sneak peeks of what you'll see at:

1eg cut outs
i'm getting everything ready for my show in the Red Horse Gallery! but in the mean time here are some doodles:
this one done on cardboard, with pen and oil pastels. you may not be able to see in the picture, but the cardboard is cut out in layers so it has a teeny tiny bit of dimension... kind of. these are just some random doodle cut outs. i had planned on doing more with them (or at least the designs) but i haven't gotten to it yet. they're done with pen and oil pastels
remember, my show at the Red Horse Gallery in Freehold Raceway Mall: Reception Thursday, December 3, 2009 at 6-8 pm. The show will be up from November 24, 2009 - January 8, 2010, full of lots and lots of One-Eyed Girls!

this is my 2009 halloween painting!! it is going to be shown in a 2-day halloween art show called Trick-Art-Treat!! tomorrow, friday, oct 30 (6-8 pm) to saturday, oct 31 (5-8 pm) at Brave New Worlds in Philly. the show is put on once again by the autumn society (http://www.theautumnsociety.com/). Halloween is my favorite so i am excited for it.
last year, i went to a wedding on halloween, and a group of us decided to go as the universal monsters, but all dressed formally for the special ocassion. so my halloween painting this year is of timmy and me in our costumes last year. i think the painting needs to be seen in person, you get a better feel for the colors.. the background is matte whereas the figures are more glossy so it has some cool contast to it.
this is our group picture:

1eg characters
i've apparently been neglecting my blog, but that doesn't mean i haven't been busy with lots of new stuff. here's just a picture for your entertainment of some recent work i've done.. just some characters turned 1eg. you see.. ursula, wizard of oz, cruella de vil, smurfette... and you can hardly see, but a painting full of all my 1eg princesses and a sketch for a bigger drawing (that i just finished tonight) keep an eye out for pictures of both finished works in the future!!
here's the wizard of oz painting i promised a while back. "heel clicker lost in the green urbs".. her red slipper is red glitter and emerald city is green glitter. subtle but i think it enhances it without flowing into cheesy.

voluptuous melodist wife of stuttering hare !
I got really excited about turning jessica rabbit into a 1EG, especially since i decided to use red glitter for her dress. normally i think glitter is tacky and pretty cheesy for artwork, but for some reason i love it in this. it has turned out to be one of my favorite current pieces. (i wish the picture actually did justice for the glitter as in real life)
So now i really want to keep using glitter.. i'm finishing up my wizard of oz piece today, so i'll be posting it soon! Check back!

Anniversary and Septfest
Last Saturday (sept 12) was my 9 year anniversary of my glorious life in a wheelchair. i usually get pretty upset about it. i remember when 3 years sounded like a lifetime, and it feels horribly disturbing that my 10 year is going to be here before i know it. i'm nearing a decade and it makes me nauseous. luckily, i've had no time to get upset this year or even really think about it. i mean, i guess that's a good thing. such is life.
Sunday was septemberfest. i facepainted and sold artwork. my 1EG's and KAOTIC KRITTERS went over pretty well, which was exciting. i sold a whole bunch of prints and several paintings, so it was way more successful than i anticipated. Prints and paintings are always available! :)

Tym!
saturday was my boyfriend tim's 26th birthday. we celebrated by spending the weekend up in boston.... where tim forgot my bag with all of my belongings. it wasn't until we were waiting out front of a friend's apartment..after, of course, a six hour car ride.. that he realized he didn't load my bag in the car. i was incredibly pissed at first, but it made for a great ongoing joke for the weekend.
here is one of my birthday presents i made for him. a mini statue of tim! he loves frisbee and that's the outfit he wears pretty much every day, down to the exact vans shoes. the pictures don't show so well, but i also painted on his tattoos on his arm/leg as well as the rings on his fingers and industrial earring in his ear.
it's based off a little version of him i've drawn several times that he likes. it's made from wire, apoxie sculpt, acrylic paint, and a concrete base. enjoy!

Colors colors colors!
I've been a little unmotivated for a few weeks.. for the first time in years.. and i don't know why. I'm having trouble doing anything i should be doing, but i haven't been doing nothing! i wanted to try making some colorful sketches but i don't have a big enough variety of colors, and my markers are all half dead.. but here they are anyway because they're fun!

Shark Week!!
During the gray, rainy, and gloomy day yesterday, i spend basically my entire day in bed watching shark week reruns and premiere on discovery channel while falling in and out of sleep. It was fantastic, but as a result i was up until 4 am due to lack of sleepiness. So i began a painting in honor of shark week. Little 6"x 8" painting i finished today.
I swear great whites are the most horrifying creatures on earth. Pure evil.

Official site for latest art news!
I've decided to start a blog of the processes and progress of my recent and upcoming artwork. Check back often to see new work, plans for future work, and exhibits.
Quick description of myself and my art:
My name is Kasey Tararuj and i have been interested in art my entire life. It was not until 2000 that i really began to use art on a different level than most artists. This is because i became paralyzed, and my art was and has been my only real outlet for these unbearable feelings and frustrations. It has been my only form of therapy to get through my life with a disability, and it has slowly formed into a serious addiction. I feel like i can never paint or draw enough. I love it and i love the fact that it feels like a drug that i can't get out of my system.
Currently i'm very into my One-Eyed Girl series a.k.a. "1EG"
1EG's have one eye, and one leg. Each is carefully designed; some as a specific character with a related background, others with a specific theme/idea with a supportive background. Basically, 1EG's are meant to provide a new, maybe eerie look to both familiar subjects or made up scenarios. They are fun to make and i have a million ideas that i'm trying and will continue to try.
This is the very first 1EG that i drew for my Red Horse Gallery Exhibit back in February. I've made plenty of more advanced ones since then.. check back soon to see some of the progress i've made!
