my first of three pieces for the Wave Warriors Art Show and Benefit! this is one of the more personal pieces i've painted in a while, which i just never have enough time for. loved painting it. the original theme for the show was "the body," and while we were no longer required to stick to the theme, i did. kind of.

butterspy

 this is butterspy. he is a butterfly-thing, or more accurately, a butterfly impostor. he wears and flaunts his fake wings while snatching up defenseless unsuspecting butterflies. and then eats them. butterspy is the first figure i finished for the munnyworld megacontest, and funny enough, i hadn't really planned on finishing him for the contest since he's made of two different munnyworld figures: the head of a raffy and body of a rooz.  ever since i made the chloe figure (with raffy body and rooz head), i've been staring at the leftover pieces, thinking of a butterfly-thing. the contest has finally given me a reason to push aside all other work and focus on some toy customizing (like i've been aching to!), so i kept using leftover clay from other pieces to slowly build up my butterspy character... and i just got too excited to paint him, so here he is! i think i'm rambling. also! i made the cute little net from one of the dozens of munny accessories i had lying around. it was a tree branch (i think?) that i cut off some sticks poking out and attached a little net made from a bug-carrier that timmy found for me.

flutterflies

last week's posts were full of quick painting exercises i did a few years ago in college.  i really loved painting them as well as posting them, so i've been making an effort to make some new ones.  i know i've said this a million times and it gets repetitive, but i get bored and lose motivation sometimes when all the work that i do is for either specific shows or commissions.  sometimes i need to stick to a certain theme, and sometimes i have little to no say at all in what i get to produce. i try to spend all my free time on things that need to be done, so lately i've been doing some quick paintings, usually no earlier than 2am, since by then my brain is too fried to even start a new piece that actually needs to involve some kind of thought and effort. and i finish before the night is over.  it's very refreshing to just thoughtlessly and effortlessly throw on chunks of paint, make a serious mess (there are spots of paint all over my desk and wall.. oops.)  and make things that i think are pretty. i'm really stressed out lately for stupid, irrational, and rational reasons, and these exercises are more theraputic than i remembered. it's pretty fantastic. my plan is to keep these up once a week, at the very least

1EG cut outs

I had some cut-outs of 1EG's lying around (you might remember them from here, so i decided to paste them on spraypainted masonite. They were real quick, and i figured it was better than just having no use for the floppy cut-outs. So now they are pieces of art! ...kind of.

i'm getting everything ready for my show in the Red Horse Gallery! but in the mean time here are some doodles:
this one done on cardboard, with pen and oil pastels. you may not be able to see in the picture, but the cardboard is cut out in layers so it has a teeny tiny bit of dimension... kind of. these are just some random doodle cut outs. i had planned on doing more with them (or at least the designs) but i haven't gotten to it yet. they're done with pen and oil pastels
