Conked Up & Sunbeam

Here are two pieces i painted for the 10x10 Show at ARTWORKS in Trenton, NJ.

The first was my piece for the show which sold opening night :) Sadly i didn't get there in time to snap a photo of it hanging on the wall but i'm happy she's gone to a good home!

"Conked Up"

My second piece was donated to be part of a raffle benefiting Artworks.

Bugger

Meet Bugger!  Bugger is a 4" Mini Munny/Rooz.  I've been wanting to experiment with simpler designs in my customs, so here's an attempt.  Excited to make more like this

escarNOOO!

"escarNOOO!"
5"x7"

a little break for a quick fun painting.  i did this mini painting for my sister's boyfriend for christmas.  he's a chef and loves lots of fancy food that i will likely never comprehend.  so i made him a painting of some escargot... and of course i amused myself immensely with my little horrified snail character.

mr. shroomz

this is mr. shroomz. i  made him for a friend who likes to hunt mushrooms in the woods and then eat them. (weirdo.) to make mr. shroomz, i customized one of joe ledbetter's finders keepers figures. i would have liked to make more additions to the face to lessen the resemblance to the initial joe ledbetter figure, but my christmas deadline wouldn't allow it. he's still awesome.

mushy kaotic kritters

more mushy paintings.  these are the 3 kaotic kritter paintings that went along with the mushy 1EG's for the "love on bangs" art show in asbury.  i based them off of pre-existing kritters with a lovey dovey twist.

i hope everyone had a lovely valentine's day. i for one, did not. i spent the day dizzy and sick at work, followed by a night feeling even worse than the day before. i know i complain a lot, but i usually have a high tolerance for pain and sickness. i can't remember the last time it has lasted so strong for this long. i swear, i have had probably every symptom you could possibly have when sick, except maybe vomitting (knock on wood.) i just can't seem to get any better at all. i'm going to die.

back on a happy valentiney note, i got my very first valentine from a student at work! sure it was hanah montana, which kind of ruined it, but i was overjoyed when a little girl gave it to me. i will keep it forever. it says, "to ms. kasey."  the kids call me ms. t usually, but either title is just the cutest thing to hear ever. AND i did get to watch my movie, valentine, finally! unforunately, i was only half conscious the whole time and coudn't enjoy it at all.. but i finally watched it damnit, which is a step closer to my valentine's dream. maybe next year i'll be able to actually enjoy it.

home sweet home

here we have the result of a violent attack of an innocent snail, by mcmousy. mcmousy just needed a place to sleep at night and keep dry from the rain. poor snail.  this was a quick little painting, about 11"x11" on wood.  you can tell it was quick, based on the overall poor planning of character design (and by poor planning, i mean non-existant.) there is a circular indent the exact size of the snail shell, which i thought might possibly make the snail head and tail pop out a bit.  even though i don't think it makes the snail necessary "pop," i still think it looks kind of cool with the indent.

LAST CHANCE! this is your last chance to see my kaotic kritter show at the red horse gallery!! ending on january 21 (that's friday!), you have only this week left to check it out. freehold raceway mall. upper level, next to sears. hours: mon-fri 10am- 4:30pm. go now, before it's too late!!   i'll post some photos of the show in the next week or two for all you lazy (or employed...) people who couldn't make it.  mega thanks to vsa arts of nj and arc resources unlimited (a program of the arc of monmouth) for having me again in their nice, splendid gallery.

tiny, spike, and gunther

TOMORROW!!!! go see my little kritter friends and me at my show!

tiny t-rex, spike and gunther! gunther the snail was one of the very first kritters that started it all! while on a very relaxing family vacation in the outter banks a few years ago, i started sketching animals for the fun of it and he was one of them.  he is also the first one timmy and i designed together, and remains one of my favorites to this day.  this is the very first sketch of him that i clearly remember drawing while in a huge mansion of a beach house surrounded by ton of family and relatives.  another fun fact, this gunther painting was the 2nd or 3rd kritter painting ever done, before we decided we wanted crazy colorful backgrounds. i think a brand new updated painting of gunther is long overdue..

here's the very first drawing of gunther before my love for painting these kritters was born

TOMORROW!

garth and banjo

garth the snail and banjo the frog! it took plenty of long, long hours of sculpting and painting, which wouldn't have been so bad but i wanted it done in time to enter in the munny munth contest.   the deadline was wednesday at midnight, and i had a deadline for the autumn society's 80's toy show, also due wednesday (which i didn't start until tuesday), so i didn't exactly sleep at all this week... but it's all done!  i was a barrel of giggles towards the end of finishing.. i get excited..

i don't have much to say about garth because it will just be a series of sentences declaring my love for him. but he's my pride and joy. i love that you can distinguish the shape of the munny from the side view, but it's not obvious or overbearing. i think he looks a million times better in person...

now please go "like" my garth entry on the munny month contest: http://sites.kidrobot.com/munnymunth/entries.php
he's on the very first page, so he's easy to find :)

garth process!

the birth of garth! i cut off the ears of a munny, then attached the arms to the feet. and several all-nighters and sleep deprivation later, garth was born.
fun part about the shell: i sculpted it, decided i didn't like it, and sanded off the entire side until i fully covered in a nice thick sheet of white dust.  but above was the first attempt at a shell (swirling outwards), and below you can partially see the end result (swirling inwards).

the making of banjo the frog!
garth didn't stand properly and just rolled over so i attached a tiny mirror upside down so it would have something flat and sturdy to keep him from tumbling.
and here's one side of garth, fully attached, with tons and tons of weights in his shell.  his head was so ungodly heavy i had to weigh it down somehow so i just jammed lots of weights, bolts and hot glue into his shell.

and here's a sneak peak of the finished project:

finished product posted tomorrw..  now go find garth the green snail here and give him a "like" !! :)

Teeny tiny

i'm waiting for my new "studio" to be set up so i haven't been working on anything major. here are a few teeny paintings i did.. each no more than 1-3 inches wide, and 5-11 inches long. a few more tiny one inchers on the way..
