Meet Quillbert!

Quillbert is a Custom Foomi Head, with real porcupine quills!  Quillbert is easily the most challenging piece I have created so far.  I'm ashamed at the amount of profanity that left my mouth while sticking those relentless little quills in his back.  They are thin and tiny but WOW do they hurt!  Once he was fully sculpted, quills and all, the second challenge was to paint him... while keeping the quills unpainted.  A long and painful process but it had to be done!  I'm very happy with the outcome, I like to think my blood and tears were worth it :)

Barber Shop Quartet

Meet my talented Barber Shop Quartet:  Squeedle, Irk, Bop, and Doug!  I've been wanting to make a character based on the cute red and white striped barber shop quartet idea for so long, but never felt quite right having it be a solo figure.  It's a quartet for a reason, there should be four members.  I was excited to come up with the idea for "A Monster's Lullaby" to finally create my quartet as a four-headed monster, and i have to admit i love them.

My Barber Shop Quartet is on display at Strychnin Gallery  in Berlin all month for "A Monster's Lullaby" ! A really awesome show in an amazing gallery that i've been so stoked for since October.

Yoti Howlerton

Meet Yoti Howlerton!  Yoti is my doofy little coyote friend.  He is a customized 7" Kidrobot Trikky, complete with real coyote teeth.  Like i said before, i'm really into incorporating real parts into my customs.  I just love idea and the look of it.

I had a ton of trouble with his outfit, which i spent far too many hours painting and repainting...and repainting.  It was an unbelievably stressful piece for me which is rare/annoying.  I'm pretty happy with the outcome and if anyone is interested, Yoti is still looking for a home sweet home!

Rattley Stanley: Snake Oil Salesman

Meet Rattley Stanley, the traveling snake oil salesman!  Rattley is easily my new favorite custom and i can't help but adore him.  He is a custom Kidrobot Rooz, which I've been wanting to use to make a snake for years and finally moved forward with the idea.  Rattley is especially special because i got a real rattlesnake tail as unique addition.  It even kind of rattles, which is fun.  I was concerned with how i was going to blend the real take with my less realistic sculpting, but i think it turned out well and i love the look of it.  I really love creating little kritters and over the past few years decided to start adding real animal parts to add a little extra fun.  You'll be seeing lots more of that in upcoming customs!

After i told my talented and creative friend Bill that my Rattley was going to be a business man, he suggested making him a snake oil salesman.  Stupid little me didn't know what snake oil was, so i looked it up and read all about the product and Clark Stanley who originally produced snake oil.  Genius idea for my rattlesnake!  

Fellow Robotipus

Meet Fellow Robotipus!  Fellow Robotipus is the sweetest little old man robot.  A customized Lego Torch Flashlight, he stand about 8" tall.  Fellow Robotpus is a content and happy little gentleman just looking for his sweetheart fembot to shower with love and gifts!  I jumped out of my comfort zone for this one, robots aren't really my thing.  I tried to just stick with my style rather than focusing on how to make him too robotic.  I like him :)

My cute little old man will be on display at "Designing Outside The Lines", a lego-inspired show curated by James Brown at 1AM Gallery in San Francisco.  

About the show:

"Most of us played with Legos as children, but some of us never stopped. The artists in “Designing Outside The Lines” are some of the most prominent Lego and toy designers around the world, spanning from the US to the Netherlands. Whether they are using record breaking amounts of Lego pieces, introducing new materials to Lego customization, combining simple minifigs with complex machinery, or anonymously installing ginormous Lego men on public beaches- they are definitely some of the most imaginative artists out there."

The show opens this Friday, April 26, 2013!

Meet The Froctor!  The Froctor is a custom Kidrobot Bub figure i made for a raffle at the Art Without Borders show at Art Whino to raise additional funds for Doctors Without Borders.

munny makers on neighborhood journal

a video of some coverage of the munnyworld show i was recently a part of!  "munny makers" at speakeasy art gallery in boonton, nj.  i had several of my customs in the show, which you can see a few throughout the video.  it looked like an amazing show and i absolutely in love with the colorful display and layout.  what a fun show! 

update: the show has been extended another month. check it out the month of january! (ends the 27th)  i hope to get a chance to head over there to take a peek for myself in person.

the carpenter and the walrus

who knows and loves the story of the carpenter and the walrus?! well here it is:

i was asked to do a commission of a 4" munnyworld figure and a 3" dunny.  i came up with the idea to recreate the well known story of the carpenter and the walrus.  the beaver is a customized 4" rooz, the walrus is a 3" dunny with it's head turned upside down, making the ears the tusks, and the oyster was fully hand sculpted. it was a very fun one to make so naturally i was excited and proud when this trio's new owner over in italy gave me an incredibly kind and positive response.
