Mr. Fancy Pants

Meet Mr. Fancy Pants.  Mr. Fancy Pants is the most dashing little starfish you'll ever lay your eyes on.  He's an old fashioned kind of starfish, and he never fails to impress on a first date.  Or 2nd, 3rd, 6th or 10th date.

Sticky Nikki

Meet Sticky Nikki!  A little 4"x6"ish 3D painting.  Although this one is more of a mounted sculpture than a 3D painting..

Love that dumb little face.

chocolate chip

"chocolate chip"
18"x24"
my sister recently showed an interest in giving painting a try.  she's a big beach bum who collects sharks teeth, seashells, seaglass, etc. so she started a mermaid painting that she plans to attach some of her beach treasures to. i've had bags of shells, sand, (among TONS of other random objects) in drawers in my art room that i've been waiting to use for different artwork.  i decided to paint this for my sister, with these special little add-ons.... maybe one or two days before christmas.  not bad for a really fast, super last minute painting, yes? no?

my favorite part is the starfish in her hair.  this dried-out starfish was actually a pet of mine at one point.   his name was keebler. i used to have several large fish tanks, full of adorable pufferfish and beautiful triggerfish.  i still have my dearest clownfish who shared the tank with this chocolate chip starfish years and years ago. unfortunately, at the time i did not do my research, bought hundreds of dollars worth of sea creatures, only to have this evil little starfish eat most of it, including a really neat sea urchin. oops.

starfish in love

i just returned from a 2 week visit to the beautiful state of california. this explains my recent lack of posts, and to make things worse, i arrived back home in new jersey to find myself homeless... which means all of my art projects and supplies are packed away carefully. i've been left with all this free time, that should be spent on art, wasting away on nonsense.  but fear not! after an abnormally long and painful process, i will officially be a homeowner tomorrow, which means my art-making will get back on track shortly. my sincerest apologies to all who have been patiently waiting for art from me!

in the mean time, here is my favorite photo from my trip to california.  starfish in love! i took a long journey to the aquarium of the bay in san franciso, all by myself! it was maybe an hour or so walk from the apartment to the aquarium, which i pushed myself through in my shaky, obnoxious wheelchair like a champ.  normally i'm too nervous to do certain things solo, especially in the chair through a big city i don't know, so this was kind of liberating.  i think i did it more because i wanted to prove i could rather than actually wanting to go. although there's nothing more lovely than staring at giant fish and sharks with funny overbites gliding around in a quiet aquarium atmosphere. it was a tiny aquarium that i slowly browsed through twice, but finding these two stars was the highlight of my day.

capt'n snips

meet capt'n snips! yarg. capt'n snips is the coolest capt'n 'round.  i made and fell in love with him back in april so i could enter him in the munnyworld megacontest.  long after making garth and banjo, i was staring at the shape of a bub DIY figure, and perfectly visualized transforming it into a little hermit crab. i'm pretty surprised at how well it came out and how close it is to my initial vision. i just love using the munnyworld platforms in fun and different ways to the point where you can't quite tell what the original shape was. the fun part is then looking for that shape as it was originally intended.

my favorite part about capt'n snips is his paper pirate hat.

my second favorite part about capt'n snips is his claw. when i had made my snail, garth, i used the munny figure's arms to build on to create his eyes. (see here!) i thought it was a cool way to still make use of the arms, but once completed, you would never know they were the arms.  what i love about my hermit crab friend is that i was able to use his arms, as arms, just placed in a different location than intended. they still have the shape of the figure's arms/hands, just with little additions to make them look more like claws. i love his big claw.

don't forget to check out the winners from the munnyworld megacontest! capt'n snips didn't win, but my two other little darlings did. my excitement hasn't died down yet, so i'm still allowed to gloat.

sealife KRITTERS

jellers the jellyfish, soary the sting ray, happie the clownfish, and jam the starfish.  i was inspired to make some sealife kritters after a meeting with ovny last week. i didn't put as much time designing these as i usually do due to lack of time but i think they came out alright.  personally, soary is my favorite and i'm obsessed with him until i find a new one to be obsessed with.
