8 Bit and Beyond 2

Recently at Bottlneck Gallery in Brooklyn, NY the "8 Bit and Beyond 2" show opened, presented and curated by Chogrin.  Here are my two pieces in the show, both of which i was excited to find out sold!

The Duck Hunter is a 4" custom Bub inspired by the great game of Duck Hunt and the cute but annoying dog everyone loves to hate.  Always a childhood favorite.

Yosh and Baby are a 4" vinyl custom (with Joe Ledbetter toy base) inspired by my personal favorite Mario game, Yoshi's Island.  I grew up on that game and it will forever be my favorite!

Here is my new 3D piece, sculpted with Magic Sculpt, glass eyes, and painted with acrylics.  This is my second piece for the POPcade show at POPzilla Gallery opening TONIGHT at Rothick Art Haus in Anaheim, CA.  Wish more than anything i could be there!

Meet Bowsy!  Bowsy is a 4" Custom Bub for POPzilla Gallery's "POPcade" Show at Rothick Art Haus, opening May 10 in Anaheim, CA!  An amazing show i'm stoked to be a part of, all video game themed and related.  Amazing.  Had a blast making him.

cake pops

cake pops! the newest "art form" i've been playing with lately. here are my first three attempts.  babies (design from bakerella), zombies, and super mario.  they make really cute treats, but are unbelievably time consuming. those mushrooms took up an entire day to make. i'd say they're hard to make, but i can't decide whether or not i'm confusing hard with time consuming. a lot more practice and maybe my cake pops will look amazing and not so lumpy !

GINGERBREAD MEN!

every year during christmas (since maybe 2005?) my buddy and i decorate some gingybreads. we used to do gingerbread houses, but last year i saw a kit for making gingerbread men and decided that was a million times cooler. it's my favorite christmas activity, and i highly recommend it for a fun night of christmasy festivities. and we are pretty darn creative with it, if i do say so myself.

so here are our gingy men! we like to and try to do duos: mario and luigi, kyle and stan, spiderman and flash, woody and charlie brown.  top row mine, bottom row brian's:

this is my last for the autumn society's Video Game Gore show at brave new worlds comics on october 1! the shining is not just a creepy old movie, i still think of it as one of the legitimately scariest movies of all time. it's horrying. it's amazing. i had several ideas for this scene, but it all came down to keeping it to the movie and keeping it simple.

who wouldn't want to see a shy guys wearing cute little matching blue dresses?

it's the most wonderful time of year!  halloween has officially begun (for me...) i look forward to october all year long and there is nothing that makes me happier. i am a very avid horror movie watcher, and although i watch them year-round (causing nonstop nightmares and irrational fear), october is month for constant horror movies, and even better, horror movie nights and marathons. i watch tons of movies every single day while i draw and paint and a big portion of them are horror, including all those really horrible B-movie (and worse) ones that no one's ever heard of, or ever should hear of. they are my guilty pleasure. most importantly, the SAW movies series, is the greatest horror story ever told.  i'm not a huge fan of the gore; i like the idea of the traps(not seeing them work), but the story itself is phenominal. i have seen the last 5 SAW movies in theaters on halloween day with my boyfriend, a tradition sadly ending with this year's final chapter, but i can't wait to finally find out all the missing links.

the point is, the autumn society's Video Game Gore show at brave new worlds opens friday october 1 ! i stuck with what i know and love and made some more fun 3-D paintings of some of the greatest horror movies of all time.  this one is a tribute to psycho, with some video game characters in place. it's sexy time with princess peach. it may not be gore now, but the psycho shower scene was one of the most shocking scenes at the time. it still creeps me out a bit. two more famous horror movie moments on the way

turning japanese

i went to philly this weekend to check out the turning japanese show, which meant i went to pick up my pieces, and one sold weee. most of the show was already down so i "borrowed" these photos from the autumn society's blog. i just like to have photos of any and every place my art shows, no matter how big or small. cool show overall. while we were in philly, we checked out the black light show at smile gallery.  tim knew someone in the show, so we stopped by.  it was nice and awkward considering it was open, yet the door was locked and everything was shut off.  so we waited patiently outside while the man opened and turned on the lights, then i had to be carried up a long but narrow flight of stairs.  gallery was teeny tiny. the idea of a black light art show is awesome, but the work was kind of lacking.  i did enjoy a couple pieces, but i horribly regret forgetting to check out the black light show in trenton not long ago. 

 i would really love to make artwork meant to be seen under a black light. so many possibilties.

turning japanese

the autumn society's TURNING JAPANESE show at brave new worlds opened friday.  i'm not really familiar with much japanese pop culture, so i stuck with what i know and love, super mario bros.  i didn't have much time so i kept them simple.  i don't feel like these are really my style but they were super fun to paint, i would have loved to paint all the mario enemies, especially the bullet and goomba.
