animals and carnival cakes

last week, i showed you my cartoony half of the too-many-cupcakes i made at the end of my summer vacation. this is part 2 with the rest of the time/life consuming cupcakes i made at that same time.

i attempted the shark cupcakes from "hello, cupcake."  it didn't work out so well. twinkies dipped in hot icing where i burnt my fingers like crazy. fruit by the foot that for some reason were sliced into 3 small strips, causing troubles for the sharks' mouths. basically i got frustrated and just let whatever was going to happen, happen. when all was said and done i loooked at the mess of "sharks" and i added some goldfish with googly eyes and i felt better. i was amused.

 for the owner of a nice black cat, i took "hello, cupcake's cat design, originally meant for halloween, and with less yellows and oranges, they just look like nice little black kitties. made of melted dark chocolate with black sprinkles on top, the cats were kind of delicious.

 my sister gave me the coolest cake pan ever for my birthday. animals, where you could decorate however, with the option of putting scoops of ice cream in their mouths. going to try these again!

my aunt asked me to do a carnival cake for my cousin's birthday. i warned her it was going to look very homemade... but she agreed, so here is my very homemade-looking carnival cake. i stole the melted candy with sprinkles idea (from the black cats above) for the lion's mane. it looked furrier.

along with the carnival cake, were a ton of "popcorn" cupcakes. marshmallows with x's cut in them, yellow mist spray, and yellow gel spray for kernels. unbelievable hand cramps from cutting x's in a bag and a half of mini marshmallows, luckily i had my fantastic mamabear helping and cutting with me (most of them..)  i've seen popcorn cupcakes, but the best i found and fully copied was from my fellow tcnj/facebook friend susan hoppe, who i stalk because she makes awesome cakes!

finally an update! i've been too distracted lately, but i have lots of new stuff in progress and some ready for sharing.  here's a comission i did of a fat cat "distinguished" cat who acts like he's better than the other cats, an up to no good who loves to steal bread, and a playful snuggly kitty.

i can't help but love the fatty catty squeezed into the smoking jacket.

here's a KAOTIC KRITTER commission i did recently of two kitty cats. bella, the black cat is clingy, lovable, affectionate, and loves to play, yet she has an extreme fear of strangers to the point that she'll hide or hiss at whoever comes to her home and even become violent when touched. she's been called "the demon cat" when she is actually very sweet. "she is our little jeckyl and hyde." sophie, the orange tabby, on the other hand, is needy, clumsy, affectionate, talkative with the loudest meow, with a "sack" that hangs below her mid section since she eats literally everything. after much rejection, sophia forced herself on bella and they're now inseparable.

i tried to get as much of the cats personalities in this painting as possible. i made sophie, with her chubby belly, cuddley and loving towards bella, while i attempted to give bella a loving but evil look by giving her one pleasant eye and one angry eye.
 
aaaand, fur babies is my first sale to canada. fun!

jack the cat kritter

here's a recent KAOTIC KRITTER cat i did.  i think i like this particular one a lot both because of the colors i chose, and the size.  normally when i do pets, they are usually 8x10 or 11x14.  jack is painted on a 16"x20" piece of masonite, so it felt better to paint.. and to look at. jack's new owner's boyfriend described jack as "a scaredy cat! he's a love bug, he's like a little boy stuck in a cat's body."  a delightful surprise was my buyer sent me a picture of the two jack's together which is fun to see:

halloweeny painting #3 !

another halloweeny zombie painting! this was a commission-- a happy couple as zombies. with zombie cat in the tree. i like this one because the blood splatter flows onto the frame too. it was fun to paint, who doesn't love zombies?
