"mom and kodi" commission

a commission i was more than happy to make for a girl whose mother passed away.  her mom lost a lot of weight, and there are no recent photos of her and her dog kodi... so there's where i came in.  they were beach bums, so instead of doing a literal beach background, i did the suggestion of one which i think fits more with the style of the painting.  i was happy to make something special for someone to remember a loved one.

wiener dog cupcakes

i was commissioned to make these cupcakes for a coworker recently. wiener dog cupcakes! she gave me a photo to copy from, so sadly i can't take credit for the design.  this was my first attempt with fondant, and i had literally no idea what i was doing. i just kind of winged it and i think it came out cute. maybe i'll try more fondant in the future, but i prefer the taste and look of some good ol' messy icing.

family portrait

here is the family portrait i previewed recently. a commission for a couple's 4 year wedding anniversary. i was happy to make something special for the occasion.  the piece includes the happy couple, their pups, some little things that they love or represent them, on a sandy beach base.

the dog's nickname is "bean," so i made a bean riding on his back.

like the bean, this girly's nickname is "chick," so a chick rides on her back.

special little things that they love:

family portrait preview

a short while ago, i was commissioned to create a family portrait in 3D ! i've done dogs and i've done people, but this is the first to combine them together.  here's a little preview before i share the final piece.  the two pet pups, later to be added to a larger one-piece sculpture.

i'll explain the bean and chick on saddles when the time is right.

hershey's hotdogs!

last year, i did a commission of someone's pup, hershey, who loves coffee. they wanted another, this time showing his love for hot dogs. it's always more fun with that little extra thing!

rat puppy

obsession

i'm indescribably puppy-hungry right now. there's a huge void in my life and i feel empty inside without one. so here's a drawing of a dog.

this is from an old mini sketchbook (2006).  i wanted to sketch out an frequent interaction between a rat and a pitbull i once knew. rats are adorable and the pitbull was a sweetheart. they were hilarious together.

boo, ben, and scout

ok back to some real art after yesterday's nonsense. i was commissioned to make a painting of 3 pet rats. boo, ben, and scout, snuggly rats who are always in each other's business.

rats are adorable.

kuma, kahula, and kirby

finally an update! i've been too distracted lately, but i have lots of new stuff in progress and some ready for sharing.  here's a comission i did of a fat cat "distinguished" cat who acts like he's better than the other cats, an up to no good who loves to steal bread, and a playful snuggly kitty.

i can't help but love the fatty catty squeezed into the smoking jacket.

rusty

i haven't been blogging because i've been using my precious time wisely, working on some awesome munnyworld figures (that i'm of course in love with as usual.) some might call it "sad" how i've let this take over literally all my spare time and social life. but i honestly wouldn't rather be doing anything else. i'm anxious yet too lazy to edit photos and write about my 3B pieces, so instead, here's a kaotic kritter painting i squeezed in for an old friend for his lovely wife's birthday:

this is rusty, the yorkie/schnauzer mix. he's very energetic and his best friend is his green ball!

i'm such a sucker for pups.

sweet dreams

this is the first night i've had to relax after a long, long time of busy stressfulness. so for today's post, here's an old painting from '06 about sleep and vivid dreamies. now it's time for me to sleep and have vivid dreamies.

toy legs

i think my blog needs more disability stories...

yesterday, i was using my feet as toys to play with my sister's dog. i know people do that all the time with dogs, but we all know i can't move my legs. as in, i had to physically pick up my legs and wiggle them around. as in, i was sitting in my room by myself wobbling around with full sized legs in my hands bouncing them with shrieks of horrific laughter coming from my mouth. as in, i looked absolutely insane. just picture it in your head. do it. who's uncomfortable?! this is what handicapped people do for fun. at least that's the word on the street. but she bit and nipped at them with the kind of enthusiasm you can only get from an adorable pup. i don't know what's worse. that i did this, that i was laughing really hard at myself while doing it, or that i'm writing this. does this count as a disability story? i'm sorry, i haven't been getting enough sleep lately. i'm so tired....

does posting one of my old but cute puppy paintings make up for the text portion of this post?

kona toy !

who remembers my sister's pup kona?! i did a kaotic kritter painting of her this past august for my sister's birthday. i love her to death, she is an absolute nutcase and full of never ending kisses. after making my mom a chloe figure for her birthday, nicole has been whining about a kona figure. i made kona as a christmas present and here is the result. i used a munnyworld mini raffy platform and built upon it with clay. whenever i see kona, she always has the same goofy muppet-like facial expression, and i really wanted to show that on the figure.  of course, somehow in every single picture my sister has posted of kona, she is not making that one single goofy face i only ever see her make.  so i did my best to get that face based on the reference photos and memory.
another fun little problem i ran into is that kona looked different in literally every set of photos i looked through.  meaning the color of her fur has changed throughout her short little life so far, and what was once dark is light, etc. i just kind of winged it hoping it was as close to her current furry status as possible.  for those of you who don't know, when you buy a munny figure, either the original or any munnyworld figure, they each come with a mystery accessory, including lightning bolts, hats, glasses, weapons...and this little swirly that looks like poop. i have so many accessories lying around that i never have any reason to use.  i want to start making random excuses to use them, so i just decided to paint some poop to go with kona. i was amused.

i have one more completed figure, a munnyworld mini bub, coming up soon, whenever i finally get the chance to take some photos... which may or may not be a very zombierific figure.

brinks

my oh my do i need to go to bed. my eyes are on fire while i'm covered in paint attempting to create an underwatery background to prepare for the octo-trunk (future painting), as i'm watching the old mtv show "undressed" from when i was in high school (?) that is making me dumber by the second. i shouldn't have just admitted to that.

so here's my quick post! this is brinks the bulldog! yet another pup commission from christmas. who can resist that face? brinks is very affectionate, like a bull in a china shop. i hope brink's owner enjoyed their new painting of their little darling, because whenever i look at it, it makes me giggle.

puppy kritters

some more kaotic kritter puppy commissions from this holiday season.

meet jack the jack russell/pug mix and tatum the mutt

next meet roxanne the little dachshund, flapjack the boxer/beagle mix, and zelda, the chubby long-haired dachshund

i'm pretty sure these two paintings were the last paintings done (i worked on them at the same time) in the year 2010. i don't know why that means anything, but i felt the need to point that out. but don't worry i have an even better piece (non-painting) that was my official last piece of the year, to be posted in the near future.

these were fun ones because they were a bit larger in size than i normally do for kritters.  they were each 18"x24".  i definitely love working on a bigger scale, something i really wish i could be doing more frequently. so that will be my goal, to make larger pieces this year. i have a whole bunch of plans for new projects this year, and i'm really excited to test them out. some are revisiting past projects, some are reworking past projects, and others are brand new. they are definitely all experiements, but i really hope to find something great through it.
