tym nutcracker

this is how far behind i am... i am just now posting this nutcracker i made back in december for a christmas present.

i've made far too many pieces of tim, for tim, but he loves himself more than i do so i think he's okay with it.  i had the idea to make a custom nutcracker for him and figured it would be amusing and appropriate for the holiday.  i really wanted to have a photo of him side by side with his little nutcracker self for fun comparison, but he's a pain. just a side note, he wears this robot shirt (constantly), shorts (constantly), and the black hat with 3 buttons (constantly).

my quick (lazy) rendition of his donatello and brain slug tattoos

my choice of buttons: 3e love (i have to remind him that he loves me, by forcing disability awareness onto him), laughing boy comics (hilarious strips), and big d (one of his favorite bands and common button choice)

if you're wondering what that blotch is in his hair, tim has a white spot. i guess it's a birthmark, but that one circular spot is and always has been white in his hair. people think he does it on purpose, like some weirdo cool, hip statement or something.

the infamous robot shirt and tattoos

whether or not you know tim, it's still a fun little thing to share. i probably shouldn't admit this, but the night i finished painting him, he was just standing alone on my desk, at probably 3 or 4 in the morning. i don't know why (i assume i was watching some horrible b-movie horror flicks that scare me when they shouldn't) but i was staring at him in my dead silent art room, with his creepy nutcracker face. i have irrational childish fears, and i legitimately feared him coming to life and murdering me. i don't know why, he just creeped me out beyond explanation. when i laid my eyes on his crazy little face the next day, i had no idea what i was thinking. so i'm crazy, but it was late and i was tired and watch too many horror movies. you'll be happy to know i no longer fear him.

gingerbread houses!

a gingerbread house was not on my agenda this year, but i thankfully finished all my work with a day to spare to relax and decorate a gingerbread house with tim. we had to forfeit our original plan for our house since we couldn't find any marzipan to make little characters and accessories. we ended up changing our idea to the overused mario brothers theme (only because i already had a luigi gingerbread man to go with it, as seen in my post a few days ago) but as it ended up, my mom found marzipan after we had already started so we still had to do mario, but at least we could do mario the right way!  i guess we'll have to save our cool idea for next year... so i'm not telling you what it is.

tim and i both did equal amounts of work on this, both made different characters.. i had to fight him to the death to let me put christmas lights on the tunnel chimney, but my nonstop whining about it caused a victory for me. i always get really bored making gingerbread houses, so i'm really happy we started doing these themed ones. it gives it a purpose and the outcome always makes me so giddy. i'm pretty sure last year's house is and always will be my favorite of all time. snoopy's doghouse:
tim and i worked on our charlie brown christmas gingerbread doghouse together equally like this year's. it's so cute, i can't take it. i'm excited to share it again this year, and more excited to share our new mario gingyhouse !

merry christmas!

tym pez!

i spent this weekend celebrating timmy's 27th birthday, and my present to him is his squid tattoo that i'm paying for next month. it just didn't feel right to be present-less on his birthday sunday, so i made him a customized pez of himself! who's sick of artwork based on tim? i suspect he is, but then again he is way too in love with himself for that. i'm still amused, so they'll just keep on coming.

tim's was (is?) a huge pez collector. apparently he has 700+ pez stored away in the attic ready to someday be displayed god knows where. his collecting has slowed down significantly sometime after he spent about $700 at one time on pez.  who would've thought pez could be such expensive hobby. every now and then i pick him up a pez that i like/he likes, but he really doesn't collect them anymore otherwise. since i've met him, back when i was 16, i've always connected him to pez-- through his aol screen name, sticker on his car, old bedroom filled from top to bottom (literally), including the ceiling in pez, and the stories i've heard about him wearing pez on a necklace around his neck in high school (what a dork).  so, now he is a functional pez dispenser.

to make this, i searched for a green pez dispenser (for green bay packers colors). the shape of the head wasn't right for what i wanted to do: his chin was way too wide, his ears and hair were unnecessary, and his snout stuck out too far.  so i got papabear to carve off each of those parts for me (see picture to left); i don't trust myself with sharp tools since i'm 90% likely to cut myself.  then i just build up clay and added some details and paint while praying i wouldn't break it.  i put tim's new customized pez back in the original bag and used two-way tape to seal it back up, and you could hardly notice unless actually looking for it.  my intention was for him to open up his little present, see the pez bag and wonder which one it is, like he has with the plenty of other pez presents i've given in the past, but this time to realize it was of himself!  it was a success and i tricked him (so he says).  either way i was excited and it was a fun mini project

kc bust!

sculpture by timmy!

quick break from my own artwork.  about a year ago, tim made a bust of me, for me. he finally painted it.. a year later.. with details from my dino tshirt to my kidrobot sweatshirt, and he even added little accessories of my parasaurolophus, 1EG, paint, disney castle, my puff (favorite), etc.  love it, so you should too!

big sur

number 2 of the paintings on photographs on canvas.  made in celebration of 3 years of fun festivities with tim.  again, like the yosemite one, this was a practice piece for the ultrasound.  tim and me at the prettiest place in the world (so far that i've seen) big sur in california.  it's not as fun as the yosemite painting with the focus point on tim's misery, but i figured i'd make one for him to portray our fun and happy memories... despite the fact that hours after this photo was taken, tim barfed up his roadside burrito once we drove off those long, winding, neverending roads along the monster cliffs in the dark under the starry night sky..  so romantic

the yosemite disaster

as of last week, i've "officially" been with tim for 3 years. no need for presents so we just make each other stuff cause we're artsy.  i used this as a chance to test out the painting on top of photographs on canvas (the practice pieces i mentioned for the ultrasound).  thought it'd be fun to print out some photos we took during our trip to california this past april and paint cartoony characters of us.  this is the first of two that i did, my favorite view from our day in yosemite.  tim was unfortunately horribly sick that day thanks to an awesome tooth infection that ruined the first few days of our cali trip.  so here we are at yosemite, i was overwhelmed with excitment! and tim...overwhelmed with pain and misery. it's funny...

ps- don't ask me why i'm standing.  i started painted me too high up didn't know how to fix it so i just painted in legs. awkwaaaard

Munny munth

munny contest winners are announced on 7/15.  if you haven't yet, don't forget to "like" my snail Garth, and tim roselle's blue Krampus (both on the first page, right next to each other)....AND mr grubtini (on this page).  voting ends tomorrow 7/14. we're not trying to win viewer's choice since that's impossible, we just want to beat each other... basically i'm telling you to vote for ours to be nice, but what i really mean is vote for my Garth, so i can beat tim :)

ART ALL NIGHT!

here is where ART ALL NIGHT took place.  huge gorgeous warehouse, full of lots of art and lots of people. this picture was taken after our first 3 hour shift between 6-7 pm on saturday, and the crowd just got bigger. i spent my first shift from 3-6 pm with tim at the door greeting guests, stamping hands, and handing out raffle tickets. loud live music, muggy air, sweaty bodies, buttloads of confusion, enthusiasm, and fun times.  the second shift at 12am-3am wasn't quite as exciting. very crowded at midnight which was awesome, but slowly emptied out. this time we spent the 3 hours "watching art", aka answering questions, keeping handsy drunk people off the artwork and reporting any problems. i basically did nothing except talk to random people and bump into some familiar faces. to my disappointment, there were very few drunk incidents for my entertainment... but i guess that's a good thing for the sake of the event.  here are more pictures from the show:

devil teeth!

last year i had to drive tim to the dentist to get some work done. he's irrationally afraid of the dentist (a.k.a. needles) so he was all drugged up, with nothing but pills in his belly and vomit out the window in the pouring rain just to bring his face back in, covered in raindrops and puke, followed by him mumbling "i'm pretty." i am thrilled to have chance for another dental-drugged-up-tim experience.. today. help me.

this is the sketch i did last time in the waiting room of what it probably looked like from tim's perspective

Tym!

saturday was my boyfriend tim's 26th birthday. we celebrated by spending the weekend up in boston.... where tim forgot my bag with all of my belongings. it wasn't until we were waiting out front of a friend's apartment..after, of course, a six hour car ride.. that he realized he didn't load my bag in the car. i was incredibly pissed at first, but it made for a great ongoing joke for the weekend.

here is one of my birthday presents i made for him. a mini statue of tim! he loves frisbee and that's the outfit he wears pretty much every day, down to the exact vans shoes. the pictures don't show so well, but i also painted on his tattoos on his arm/leg as well as the rings on his fingers and industrial earring in his ear.

it's based off a little version of him i've drawn several times that he likes. it's made from wire, apoxie sculpt, acrylic paint, and a concrete base. enjoy!
