mini munny sneak peek

i had an art night with my lover boy where we each made a kidrobot mini munny.  i was hoping to end the night with fully completed figures, but we'll have to finish next time.  i used super sculpey (instead of the usual apoxie sculpt) since it has no drying time and is great for a quickie. i haven't used super sculpey in years, and while there are things i don't like about it, i definitely enjoy working with it.

finished sculpting. not pictured is his little worm friend. next, i paint!

golden pig preview

sneak peek of the GODLEN PIG TROPHY for the winner of the flame-off glass blowing competition at the C.K 2011 wholesale expo. i'll post the full trophy later on (complete with a glass blown base and photos of my first wonderfully awkward experience blowing glass). i was super excited to have the opportunity to create the trophy (thanks to jason harris and mike at lava rubber!)

i'll be doing some live painting at the event afterparty, also battling against 2 other painters. my first
live painting..

3B sneak peek #3

i finally finished my pieces for the autumn society's 3B show at gallery 1988 venice. i haven't had the chance to take some good photos of them yet, so here's your last sneak peek. i showed a preview of beetlejuice, back to the future, and now here's bill and ted's excellent adventure! (technically, bill and ted's bogus journey).  this is a pathetic teaser, but the final piece of this makes me so happy and giddy inside. i'm excited to share it, as well as the others. even more exciting, i'm flying out to california for the opening! i'm so stoked to visit sunny california again, and to experience the opening of an amazing show.

3B sneak peek #2

my pieces for the autumn society's upcoming 3B show : back to the future, bill and ted's excellent adventure, and beetlejuice (sequel to last year's 3G show ) are far from finished, but they're coming along. i showed you a tiny preview of my beetlejuice painting, now here's a mini teaser from my back to the future piece. it's a teeny tiny close up from a much larger painting. show opens may 5 at gallery 1988 venice (santa monica, california), keep a look out for more updates!

3B sneak peek

aside from checking out an art show (see bottom!), the rest of my weekend was 100% devoted to stressing out trying to get as much painting done as possible. which meant turning down lots of fun things to do, but i luckily actually had some self discipline. who's ready for another amazing autumn society show?! the sequel to last year's  3G show is coming to gallery 1988 this may. last year we paid tribute to three 80's films starting with the letter G. ghostbusters, goonies, and gremlins.  this year, we have 3B! back to the future, bill and ted's excellent adventure, and...BEETLEJUICE! i can't begin to describe how excited i am to make a piece for one of my favorite movies of all time.
when i was deciding on an idea for beetlejuice, i actually got depressed because i can't do more than one. these two images are just a teeny tiny sneak
peek/teaser of my beetlejuice piece. they are part of a much larger piece, but if you recognize them, i love you.

the show opens may 5 at gallery 1988's new venice location (santa monica, california)
get excited!

Poster art by Glen Brogan

quick note: this weekend, i dropped by paradigm gallery & studio in philadelphia to see the autumn society's "age of reptiles" art show (curated by the talented anthony pedro) before it closed. i wasn't involved in the show, but i have a love for dinosaurs (i love over sized creatures) so i had to check it out. i finally got to meet some other autumn society members and fell in love with some of the artwork. if you love dinosaurs as much as i do, check out the pieces from the show, plus a video from opening night here.

munnyworld!

remember when i so graciously won the munny munth contest ...twice..?  well all those little white figures above are the bunches of munnyworld figures given to me as part of my prize. time for lots of customizing! my artsy obligations are slowing down now, so between projects i plan on creating lots of new figures. starting now!

please excuse my craptastic phone photos.

gremlins

i can't seem to keep up with anything lately.  except my art obligations, and somehow this blog (kind of..)

i'm busting my ass to finish my gremlins piece in the next few days so i can ship all 3 out to california.  no sunlight for me.

i always wanted to do the cool "sneak peek" cropped photos that shows a only a tiny bit that makes you dying to see more.  i don't have enough finished to even make myself excited, but i'm doing it anyway. so here's my poor excuse for a teaser for my gremlins painting. i'm tired...

munny munth!

munny contest for munny munth! i've entered munny customizing contests before, but this is the biggest of the biggest.  there are tons of categories to win for, plus random other prizes. however! the grand prize is to design a dunny in 2011's dunny series. that is amazing. not to mention the celebrity judges are some amazing artists and toy designers, including my favorite amanda visell.  so whether or not winning is my intention, the whole idea of this and how big it seems to be is pretty damn awesome.  just to have these artists seeing my work is great, and i'm psyched to see who's chosen for the dunny series (MEEE...or hopefully a flat-out "nobody," a talented nobody.. because that would make it worthwhile)  i finished sculpting mr. grunbtini and now i just need to paint him and finish up his accessories.  he's pretty fantastic, but what kind of mother doesn't think her newborn is fantastic? judge as you will. but check out process/progress!

update 2:30 pm: i came up with an idea tday for another munny. i got excited and started before even really thinking about it. so we'll see how that goes and if i finish in time for the contest... 6 days

clowntastrophe sneak peek

sneak peek!  these are all the blank circus punks for the clowntastrophe show.  i was thrilled to pick one up and design my own, especially since i've seen and admired plenty of other well-known artists' renderings. plus, i love to have new experiences with art, especially different shapes to paint.

and here above is my finished sketch on paper
as well as the sketched-on punk.

as of today, my circus punk is fully painted, and i think i might be beyond in love with it.  all that's left to do is the fur around the edge.  pictures posted soon once 100% complete!

check out the clowntastrophe philadelphia weekly promo page!  http://www.philadelphiaweekly.com/events/Clowntastrophe-95341249.html

upcoming painting

upcoming painting.  i did the sketch and colored it in photoshop (please don't make fun of my horrible photoshop skills). but i plan on painting it similiar to that, on a big, big scale... hopefully. trying to do more with my one-eyed girls, aside from characters and just on random colorful backgrounds. this is just a baby step to bigger and better things.
