Meet the Wandering Trio!

Commissioned Wandering Misfit Inkslinger.  I had much freedom on this to do what i wanted, and i knew i wanted a little critter on the top of his head.  Sticking to the sea creature theme, as requested by the client, i thought a little seahorse would be fun.  And of course why would i leave his back bare when i could put yet another silly character there!?  The whole hobo theme seemed too perfect, especially with that silly half angry-half drunken-half crazed look on the octopus man's face.   Truly enjoyed making this piece.

Art All Night 2013

My piece hanging at Art All Night (24 hour event of art, live music, etc!) this year.  It was a huge turn out and tons of fun, as usual.  My piece "Rustic Shipwreck" is still available, 16"x20" plus frame.  Contact me if interested :)

snugglepus (finished)

i finally finished my snugglepus piece.  he couldn't stand on his own so i had to make a base for him.  here it is:

i believe this is the last posted of my 8 most recent customs. snugglepus! snugglepus is my almost-octopus with his one-armed teddy bear. i knew i wanted him snuggling up to a teddy, so he really just didnt' feel complete without a onesie.  well, as close as a onesie i could get on this adorable little mollusc. my poor planning (or non-planning) caused him to be a little side-heavy, so he doesn't stand on his own yet.  i have a little cozy bed and pillow in progress as his base, and soon snugglepus will be complete!

new painting from the new year! i did this recently for funsies just to stray away from all the artsy obligations i've had from the holidays. i spent some time cleaning out and organizing my hard drive and found a ton of old sketches i had saved from previous years. when i made my giant octopus mural (...that was recently stolen from the outside walls of the college of new jersey), i had several sketches before deciding on a final one.  this tree/octopus sketch was one of them, and i found that i actually really liked it. so i painted it. 

i really love paintings with a lot of layers or textures. some of my favorites of my own have these elements, so i added a bunch of lace and sand around the border of the painting for some fun textures, which you can hopefully see better in these detail pictures:

also, today i start my job. i am not even going to say how long it has been since i've had a full time job, that's how embarassing it is. i'm ungodly nervous about it, and i'm terrified of what it will do to my art, but i am determined to keep my art going strong. i have tons of deadlines and projects that will last a long time, so even if i get "lazy," i have no choice but to keep going. which is a good thing.  in addition to my naturally awkward personality, my social skills have gone beyond downhill since i graduated from college. i can thank my addition to painting and locking myself in my art room all day, everday for 2 1/2 years, for that. i am hoping this whole fun-filled "working" thing i've heard so much about will help me gain some better social skills and confidence that i have been seriously lacking. or maybe it will just end in me taking lots and lots of naps, which also sounds beautiful. wish me luck. good luck, me!

sealife kritters...again!

corky the blowfish!  my favorite fish, by far, are pufferfish.  specifically porcupine puffers. i used to have a tank full of them, and other types of puffers. they were absolutely fantastic and had way too much personality for being a fish.  i was in heaven... until i got more fish, who came with fun diseases and killed my entire tank. i gave up after that. i miss them. this is my generic blowfish.  i'll make a porcupine puffer kaotic kritter in the future, maybe even all the types of puffers i had, in memory of my happier days with a tank full of friendly puffers.

and this little guy is squiggles the octopus. this is definitely a sketch in painting form. very, very quick and sloppy.  i had some piece of cardboard from a poptart box lying around that i had painted, probably about my sophomore year of college. don't ask me why i saved it for so about 4-5 years. i got the urge to paint on it last week... obviously without much thought or effort
