girly sketches

a few weeks ago via facebook, i asked for girl cartoon suggestions to sketch out outside in the sunshine during the 10 seconds of gorgeous weather we had. kitana is by far my favorite sketch out of these 4, and she was always my favorite character from mortal kombat... along with sub zero. i'd be happy to see the two of them married one day.
i got other suggestions that i didn't get to yet, but look for venture brother, x-men, and other gals in the future. and i'm in currently in the works of a big scooby gang piece, which will be the first 1EG/KAOTIC KRITTER combo painting, and i'm waaaaaay excited about that

AERO!

last week my buddy mike from ovny invited me to come along and meet/watch caleb aero paint a mural over in long branch, nj. aero is an incredible aerosol artsit who does way more than just create insane pieces of art. aerosolarts.com
"Hawaii born Caleb "Aero" is becoming a household name as one of the most active and talented international aerosol artist of his time. San Diego Magazine titled Caleb Aero the Tony Hawk of Spray Painted Murals in 05. At the forefront of the aerosol age Aero is bringing this medium to new heights and audiences around the world. By introducing Aerosol Art Parks™ he has found a solution to help funnel our youth's curiosity with spray paint in a positive direction. Aero is also the first and only aerosol artist in America to have created his own personal line of spray paint called Blubber Colors™. With over a thousand murals painted in the last decade Aero has established himself as a future legend in the aerosol art game. Whether its teaching an aerosol art workshops™ to high school students or organizing aerosol art events™ for other aspiring artist to gather. Aero is creating a difference that is opening doors for this street art form. Watch out for his new 2nd Annual "Paint our Town 2010™" Tour which showcases Aero and friends producing colorful murals as they tour from city to city."

i had the pleasure of watching aero, and another artist dezo make this huge mural from start to finish. i was there for about 5-6 hours..eventually in some rain..watching and learning, and got a short lesson on spray painting. i made a bunch of crappy circles and squares and triangles on the wall with these quick techniques. horrible, but i kinda want to practice it... i think this is the first piece at this size i've seen done like this. it was pretty amazing to see the progress of poseidon's face as it kept changing into something different. very cool. i don't know if this is what motivated me to, but i spent the next 2 days locked in my artsy room drawing and painting non stop. it was the only thing on my brain and i couldn't even force myself to do anything else. i'm just going to assume i was "inspired"
very beginning, after covering up graffiti underneath

(there are my sweet, sweet shapes on the left. haaa) finished!

distractions

i got yelled at last night for having so many unfinished projects. i never noticed before, but apparently i start things, either get bored or distracted, and forget about them and start new things. so right now i have 18 unfinished pieces.

and i got a friendly visitor in my studio today! (i made that sound way cooler and more professional than it actually is..)
adorable

sneak peek week: worms!

sneak peek day 5! remember my worms series? here's 5 more- to be painted soon. i don't put any time into these and they are poorly sculpted, if you could even call it that. i don't know why i'm so amused by these. love them

sneak peek week: kritter scultpure!

sneak peek day 2 ! ever since lardsicle, i've been dying to make a new KAOTIC KRITTERS sculpture, but the ideas i have require a munnyworld figure, and i currently have none. then, i was at AC Moore and bought that cliche cheesetastic dove statue. it was clearanced and i immediately visioned what i could do with it. i took the doves and just added clay onto it to create a whale jumping backwards, and his chubby walrus buddy resting on a wave.they're obviously not the most accurate creatures in the world but i was just kind of winging it.
click each picture to enlarge and get a better look
so here's the preview of Salty the walrus and Humpter the humpback whale!

sneak peek week: villians!

it's sneak peek week! all this week i'll be showing what's to come in the future.... even if most of it most likely won't be for a very long time.
today: villian 1EG's! i have one sketch and 2 watercolors. after i did the disney princess series, i started these. i've had the two watercolors done for some time now, but my plan is to create legit background scenes for them, along with hopefully some other fun villians i can think of. let me know if there's any villlians you want to see!

heel clicker at the green door

new oz! this has been a work in progress for a while but i finally finished. i did this for dr. ornstein and his podiatry office in howell, nj. the office is filled with lots and lots of wizard of oz artwork and memorabilia. so i'm excited to be a part of the oz collection. you can check out info and pictures about the collection here !!

this is the 2nd oz piece i've done, and if you don't remember, you can see the first here! again, i made her red slipper with red glitter, and lines of green glitter along the green tubes (or whatever you want to call them) in the back. i love glitter, as long as it's subtle and pretty

happy st patrick's!

happy st patrick's day! i just did a quick colored pencil sketch, in my black sketchbook since i was craving it after yesterday's post. i think it is hilarious, but i have this problem where i think everything i do is funny when it's really not. when i was younger, i could never find a 4 leaf clover and it always made me really angry, so i always used to, and i'm sure i'm not the only one, grab a 3 leaf and split one leaf to make it 4 leaves. i pretended and got excited as if it were an actual 4 leaf clover...as if no one would notice. kids are dumb. so in my drawing all the little 3 leaf clovers are totally psyched that Mr. Lucksley was picked, while Angry Fraud stands alone. blinded by jealousy and pissed off.

update! 2:12 pm. i finished this real late last night but was too lazy to upload until now. here's my leprechaun 1EG ! again on black paper. love those colors on the black...

enjoy your st patrick's day!

devil teeth!

last year i had to drive tim to the dentist to get some work done. he's irrationally afraid of the dentist (a.k.a. needles) so he was all drugged up, with nothing but pills in his belly and vomit out the window in the pouring rain just to bring his face back in, covered in raindrops and puke, followed by him mumbling "i'm pretty." i am thrilled to have chance for another dental-drugged-up-tim experience.. today. help me.

this is the sketch i did last time in the waiting room of what it probably looked like from tim's perspective

beautiful day!

right now i'm outside on my back porch drawing. it is fantastic and i hope this weather keeps up so i can get out of my neverending-art-making-dungeon-studio more and get some fresh air and go a little less insane every day.

it's significantly more peaceful to draw outside, especially now in this weather, where it's breezy and sunny, and especially at this time of year, with empty trees, an empty yard, and an empty pool. i keep smelling the faint scent of flowers but i don't see any. it's too bad i live on a busy road and there are non stop obnoxious cars driving by. i don't care who you are, go outside and make art!

angry worm

this is angry worm. i you will see each of his friends this week up close. i use apoxie sculpt to make my sculptures, where you mix part A with part B, and have only 2-3 hours to work with it before it hardens. too often i have mixed too much and ended up with lots of chunks of wasted clay. which is just wrong. i started making worms with the left over clay. i'm going to have an army of worms !

OVNY

did you know wetsuits can't really be recycled, and end up lying in landfills cold and lonely? OVNY recycles your wetsuits and turns them into Recycled Record coasters , surfboard coasters- a sweet invention to prevent scratching and roughing up your boards. and glass coasters. to prevent those horrifying circley stains on your living room coffee table. there's also some other awesome gear for sale. go to http://www.ovny.org/ now!

ovny's a member of 1%For the Planet.org . 1% of their sales goes to cleaning beaches and mountains and protecting endangered wildlife. fun! by the way, that's my sweet "Senor Ovny" KAOTIC KRITTER up top. i don't know how to get that little wavey line over the N.. but you know what i'm saying. he's spectacular.

Customized Munny Show at RobotLove

my last munny bit of the week. this past april of 09, i was a part of a show called "In the Heart of My Retro Future" in Minneapolis, MN. the show was consisted of lots of customized munnys, including mine and tim's. it was a challenge to create them sturdy enough to ship over to MN, but they got there and back, both in one piece. mine was okay, but unfortunately the part i love, my favorite (the back) wasn't visible in the show. and tim's was fantastic (scarecrow in 2nd picture). it was a fun show and we wish we could've been able to take the trip over to minneapolis to see it in person. it was exciting to be a part of

but there's no doubt about it. lardsicle is my current favorite "munnyworld" figure today, but i'm sure that will change once i make the many more i have working in my mind. whenever that might be

Munny Highlights in "Day in the Lyfe"

i figure my theme of the week seems to be munnys so far, and therefore it continues! that is the very first (mini) munny i ever made, a few years ago. it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. for those of you (i'm sure most of you) who haven't seen this, my past 2 munnys were highlighted back in october in Day in the Lyfe online magazine.

"Day in the Lyfe is a world-class street art magazine and website that explores all aspects of the exploding street art culture. A creation of highly selective and discerning professional artists and journalists, Day in the Lyfe is the place all top-notch, cutting-edge street artists strive to be seen and heard. Each page is a colorful, funky, sexy adventure into the world of the urban creative class and each issue becomes a collector’s item where readers turn for inspiration, entertainment, and culture again and again."

i'm obviously not quite a street artist, but i was still pretty psyched to see them there. i'm psyched to see anything anywhere. click here to check it out!

i believe i owe a thank you to nicole and mike (www.ovny.org) for that one. as well as of course those who run the 'zine.

Lardsicle

this is lardsicle! he is my dear fatty friend. a little lost and lonely, a creamsicle every now and then is the only thing that makes him genuinely happy. besides that, he's my lumpy grumpy lovable elephant. but don't piss him off or he'll stampede into your eye with his orange horn.

he is pretty much my favorite ever right now. i am longing to make him friends.

KAOTIC KRITTERS

this past christmas, i gave "killer potato" to my dad. if you know my dad, you'd know he's pretty much the epitome of a couch potato. so i made this, in hopes that he didn't die a little inside for my recognition that he's killed every hobby he has ever had. but it's funny!! or i'm a jerk. either way, i'm happy.

i'm posting this because i wanted to post a KAOTIC KRITTER because i am currently customizing a MUNNYWORLD figure (Bub) for Kidrobot's ROYGBIV Munnyworld Highlight Contest . it'd be very neat to win, but i'm really just using the contest as an excuse to customize a figure and put aside other work i don't want to do.

my mini bub figure is the first KAOTIC KRITTER design done in 3D. i'm pretty excited about it. it's just flat out fun to design and sculpt this type of style, and i'm already thinking about how badly i want to do another one. my bub is almost done, just a few more details and finishing touches, and it will be posted later this week
