toilet paper trail

today is embarrassing handicap story day.

you know how there's the whole "funny" and "embarrassing" thing where a piece of toilet paper gets stuck to the bottom of someone's shoe, they walk away clueless as echos of laughter fill the room behind them, and when they realize what has happened, they run away in humiliation? (at least that happens in the movies...?)

well SOMEHOW, a piece of toilet paper got stuck to the bottom of my shoe and it wasn't until i got out of my chair and into my car that i saw it dangling. really? i can't walk and i managed to catch a toilet paper trail... on  my shoe. i might be the only wheelchair user on the planet capable of pulling that one off.

fat cow

here's an old painting from 2006. this is how i am feeling lately. like a fat cow who cannot control or stop the constant consumption of candy and junk food.

i'll start posting some new work in the coming weeks.  i'm currently in the process of moving AND creating new figures for the upcoming kidrobot munnyworld contest, so for now i'll mostly be posting some oldies for fun.

wave warriors art show and benefit

tonight is the opening for the Wave Warriors Art Show and Benefit in Virginia Beach! i'm super stoked to be a part of this show, and although i can't be there in person, i know it's going to be an amazing show. i have 3 pieces in the show: 2 brand new pieces and one previously exhibited in rise up's show in december. my pieces are all very different, but i absolutely loved coming up with and painting each of these.  they all keep to the show's initial theme(s): the body and/or ocean-inspired work.

facebook event.  more info about the show:

Billabong and 17th street are bringing in Billabong Surf Artist Andy Davis, which is pretty amazing, so he will be coming here from California signing prints, showing his new clothing line with Billabong, and selling a few of his paintings at the show.

The show is equally a fundraiser for Wave Warriors as it is an art show.  There will be a small silent auction to help raise money for Wave Warriors, as well as a nice display to help educate others about the Surf Camps that Wave Warriors puts together.

lonesome sky and city

i mentioned a few weeks ago that i will be flying across the country fully and completely alone. (see that post here.) today is that day. not only will i be facing my fears of flying alone (...with a disability that i know will only create more stress), but once i get to my destination, i plan to explore a very unfamiliar city by myself as well. not just any city, but the hilliest city of them all. san francisco! my nemesis! a lost, confused, physically impaired little chick in a wheelchair ready to tackle some mean hills and streets? i might have lost my mind. like i said, this trip is going to be incredibly empowering and i know i'm going to come out of it a stronger, more confident person. either that, or i'll lose control, roll into the street and get hit by a trolley.

i know i'll be in your thoughts, and i appreciate your hopes and dreams that i don't end up under a trolley or lost and in search for my stolen wheelchair. however, i'd much rather have your prayers that i don't have to pee mid-flight on the plane, because i have no idea how i'm going to pull that one off.

it's been difficult to find any information about this specific situation flying. i hope i come out of this with a good experience and some kind of knowledge so that i can share it with other future disabled solo flyers!

i'm off to see my favorite person ever 3,000 miles away. see you in a week !

too few arms

my second brand new painting for the Wave Warriors Art Show and Benefit in Virginia Beach!
another painting on the more personal side. i really can't say enough how much i've enjoyed painting these new pieces. i've always loved painting in black and white, but adding a single color has pretty much become my favorite thing ever.

monarch migration

my first of three pieces for the Wave Warriors Art Show and Benefit! this is one of the more personal pieces i've painted in a while, which i just never have enough time for. loved painting it. the original theme for the show was "the body," and while we were no longer required to stick to the theme, i did. kind of.
