sealife kritters...again!

corky the blowfish!  my favorite fish, by far, are pufferfish.  specifically porcupine puffers. i used to have a tank full of them, and other types of puffers. they were absolutely fantastic and had way too much personality for being a fish.  i was in heaven... until i got more fish, who came with fun diseases and killed my entire tank. i gave up after that. i miss them. this is my generic blowfish.  i'll make a porcupine puffer kaotic kritter in the future, maybe even all the types of puffers i had, in memory of my happier days with a tank full of friendly puffers.

and this little guy is squiggles the octopus. this is definitely a sketch in painting form. very, very quick and sloppy.  i had some piece of cardboard from a poptart box lying around that i had painted, probably about my sophomore year of college. don't ask me why i saved it for so about 4-5 years. i got the urge to paint on it last week... obviously without much thought or effort

friend 1EG's

i owed my friend a painting for about 2 years before i finished this.  (not COMPLETELY because i was lazy, it did take a long, long time to decide on what she wanted!) but she wanted me, her, and our other friend painted as 1EG'S.  i think it looks like us, mostly since we each have such different hairstyles that none of us look the same at all.

mr smiles!

HERE HE IS! mr. smiles. with close up of the rain because i love the way it looks. (click pics for larger view).  mr smiles is currently the biggest kaotic kritter to date, at 24"x36".  but i love working big so i'll be making lots of huge kritter paintings. 

mockery series: the lone lighthouse

so a few weeks.. or months (?) ago, i wanted to start a series of 1-night quick paintings to break myself from the commissioned art i am always doing.  something to just keep me grounded so i don't go insane doing all artwork for others, rather than myself.  i was in the bathroom one night and i zoned out on some cliche lighthouse painting my mom has hanging up.  my mom loves that crap. i kind of despise artwork of landscapes.. of fruit.. of flowers.. basically any boring cliche you can think of that everyone in the world has hanging in their boring houses .... no offense... so as my little exercise i am basically just copying existing "boring" paintings and making them creepy or discusting or whatever i feel like.  this was the first. unforunately i haven't  made any more yet, though i have lots of ideas. i was going to wait to post this one until i had more, but i have no idea when i'll make another one, and got impatient

sealife KRITTERS

jellers the jellyfish, soary the sting ray, happie the clownfish, and jam the starfish.  i was inspired to make some sealife kritters after a meeting with ovny last week. i didn't put as much time designing these as i usually do due to lack of time but i think they came out alright.  personally, soary is my favorite and i'm obsessed with him until i find a new one to be obsessed with.

happy mother's day!

i made this for my mom for mother's day. mama elephant and 3 trailing babies.  first baby is my oldest sister with the evil eye because she likes to terrorize people. second baby is huge-smile middle sister. and baby sleepy me, on wheels of course. i'm going to do this as a huge painting but i figured a small drawing would be better for my mom since i'm sure she doesn't need giant cartoon elephants to find a spot for.

we spent mother's day at the azalea fest, facepainting and selling artwork. it was freezing, super sleepy, looked like a trainwreck, super dehydrated, and didn't really get to socialize with.. anyone.  BUT it was fun, got to show lots of artwork, sold some prints, painted lots of attention-span-less kids, and painted a very special twenty-some year old's full face as a skeleton. the wind was unearthly but our stand held up well. we (aka my mom) finally i figured out the best way to set up and display work at our stand.  learn more and better ways every time.

KAOTIC KRITTERS!!

pandy the red panda, bottles the dolphin, and cornball the guinea pig have been sitting on my counter unfinished for months and months. so i finally finished them. here they are! next kaotic kritter to be finished should be mr. smiles, hopefully by next week if i have time.

forbidden ocean love: salty and humpster

salty the walrus and humpster the humpback whale. finally finished! so here they are, painted and adorable. humpster is pretty damn cute when you look at him upside down.. (or rightside up..) you should just turn your head and look at the pic above upside down. you'll get what i mean. if you do it. do it! he looks happier. i want to make a brand new humpster on his own, facing the right way, but i'd rather make brand new ones.

don't forget where these guys came from! the old dove statue i found. excited. and i hope lots of people looked as stupid as i did trying to turn their heads upside down to see humpster rightside up on their computer screens

lacuna inc.

i've been working on this very slowly, for a really long time, since i kept having to put it aside for other work, but i finally finished it recently. you should be able to click for a larger image. it's for myself cause i'm a huge geek, but it's based on the movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. my favorite movie. ever. so i'm pretty excited about it and i'm going to be doing lots more movie "scenes", rather than single characters, in the future (coraline, mars attacks, etc..). feel free to suggest or order any movies you want...but only if they are fun

i finally got a chance to see my 2 kaotic kritters in the "connect" exhibit at artworks in trenton. the guy said people really seemed to like them. the bunny was a popular one, which sold and i got commissioned to make another, which is exciting. i was a little disappointed when i got there to see that their tags were mixed up, so their names were wrong. but otherwise i'm always excited to see my art anywhere.. and some of the other art in the place was pretty awesome.

i couldn't bare to have only a long boring post with no art today so here's some art..kind of:



every year, i facepaint at the MS walk in hamilton. and once the walk starts, there is no one really in the cafeteria except volunteers, and we all wait around for them to return. so i do almost nothing for about an hour, so at this year's walk, on sunday, i painted this little guy on my hand. he's adorable. i hope he is prettier than my 90-year old looking hands

tim burton at the MoMA

so apparently several people thought my choice of words for yesterday's contest was confusing. i didn't think it was, but my apologies!! i'll make it better for next week's free drawing(TUESDAY!)

took this picture months ago before the exhibit was running so it's nice and empty!

i finally got to the MoMA on saturday to see the tim burton exhibit. words cannot explain how much i loved it (although the number of people there practically ruined it for me.) as an artist, i should love going to museums and seeing lots of art, but i kind of hate it. i get bored and tired, but mostly angry. the amount of anger i get towards certain art is irrational, but i'll get into that another day. i do enjoy visiting smaller galleries with artists i actually like, such as greg simkins and damon soule, who i saw at joshua liner gallery. amazing shows.

but tim burton! wow. he's phenomenal. he has everything i love about art (and life!) twisted, but witty humor and creepy borderline-scary imagery. his scenes, his characters. they're unique and experimental. i noticed and then my boyfriend mentioned it shortly after, that some of his drawings are kinda nothing special, but as a whole with 10-20-30 drawings all stacked on each other or in a row, it becomes infinitely more awesome. i know tim burton mostly from his movies, so just seeing such a large quantity of his work in one small area was amazing. you can never really feel someone's style significantly until you see it all as a whole. not only was i amazed by seeing so much of his legit artwork for the first time, there was also sketches, [props, scribbles of thoughts from his big time movies. favorites, of course, being mars attacks and beetlejuice! it was just really fun to see these already familiar characters scribbled on paper by the person responsible for their existence, in a style i've never seen them in before.

don't tell salvador dali that tim burton might have stolen my heart on this one. the dali museum in st. petersburg, fl, was absolutely amazing and he is my favorite artist of all time.. buuut... i'm torn. torn between two loves.

if it wasn't the last weekend and already sold out and people didn't use my wheelchair for a stepping stool, i'd want to go back, real bad. i hope you all got the chance to see it!

an incredible family portrait

friday afternoon, i had to take tim to and from the dentist yet again. this time i waited in the parking lot since it was pretty and breezy outside, so i passed the time by drawing this, and adding some color when i got home. it's on some cardboard frame box i had lying around. yeah!

MURAL MISSING

my octopus mural was on the outside wall of holman hall, the old art building at tcnj. the new art building is finally up and running and a few months ago, my old tcnj professor asked if they could move it to the new building. i was pretty damn excited because i didn't want it to just be forgotten and i wanted people to keep seeing it. i put so much time, energy, money, and passion into that thing. when i came home from california i had a nice email waiting for me from my professor telling me they went to go get my mural and it was gone, and asked if i had taken it down. i didn't. so someone apparently stole my 7 foot tall, 14 foot wide mural....? i'm kind of heartbroken. she said it wasn't cut down (it was painted on a huge sheet of tyvek), but it was carefully taken down because the bolts were unscrewed. so i hate you, whoever you are who took it down. i hope they find it because i'm ungodly pissed and upset about it.

i painted it in about a week's time. long, loong days. my parents and friends helped out a lot when i first started- setting up the tyvek, projecting, outlining, and filling in solid colors. and then i spent the next million hours shading, half of which i painted upside down:


i remember getting five guys, where my dad tried to order cheesesteaks. got lots of delicious milkshakes. tim and i brought my little tv so we could watch lilo and stitch, arrested development and eat craploads of chips and dip. really fun times from what i remember and i ended up really satisfied with it in the end. i loved it. so much time and work to paint, including basically the entire semester of prepwork.

recently my artsy friend from tcnj informed me that she misses my art with trees and boobs..which i do too but i'm stuck on and obsessed with 1eg's and kritters..

so i made her a little tree with boobs. not the same but i'm amused. enjoy that

plan is to be back to work today. we'll see how much i actually get done. i hope all you people with "real" jobs are reading this and hating me for it, squirming with jealousy! here's a random ballerina i did a long time ago. she's not the greatest 1eg but i don't feel like looking for something better to post. i'll have a better post tomorrow i swear!

i'm in yosemite national park right now (at least i hope so..considering i wrote this on wednesday) enjoying the sweet, sweet waterfalls and prettiful nature, and possibly some snow/rain. mmmmmmmmdelicious

i'm going to california TOMORROW! that means no posts until i come back on the 12th. i'm beyond excited for a new adventure in a new place with lots of californian friends... and i'm beyond terrified for an unbearably long flight that makes my tummy shrivel and migrate north to my throat. we're starting in san fransisco for friends and bridges and prisons, visiting yosemite national park for easter where i fear being mauled by mountain lions, driving and driving and driving down big sur for some marvelous scenery, stopping for the night in santa barbara for sleepies, then to los angeles with awesome friends, family, and DISNEYLAND!

i hope to see each of these ladies throughout our day in disneyland....
